Location: Mannon Metal Works LLC – Laclede County, MO & Surrounding Areas
Job Type: Part-Time (Weekends only - subject to change)
Salary: $22–$26/hour – Based on experience

Requirements

Mannon Metal Works LLC is looking for a motivated Fitter Apprentice to join our fabrication team. This is a hands-on training role designed to teach layout, measurement, and structural fitting skills. You will work alongside experienced fitters and welders to assist with assembling equipment, excavator buckets, and custom components for agricultural and commercial use.

Career Progression
Welder Helper ($16 - $18/hr)
          Assists welders with preparation, material handling, and maintenance tasks.
Welder ($19 - $23/hr)
          Performs welding tasks on various equipment, ensuring quality and safety.
Field Welder ($24 - $28/hr)
          Conducts on-site welding, often in varying conditions, requiring adaptability.
Fitter Apprentice ($22 - $26/hr)
          Learns to assemble and fit structural components under supervision. 
Fitter ($27 - $32/hr)
          Expert in assembling and fitting components, ensuring precision and quality.

Leadership & Advanced Roles
Lead Welder / Senior Fitter ($32 - $38/hr)
          Oversees welding and fitting projects, mentors junior staff, and ensures standards.
Shop Supervisor / Foreman ($38 - $45/hr)
          Manages shop operations, coordinates projects, and leads teams to meet objectives.

     1. AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Certification (American Welding Society)
          Covers welding of structural steel in commercial, industrial, and construction applications.
          Required for working on high-strength steel structures.
     2. AWS D1.3 Sheet Metal Welding Certification
          Ideal for welding thinner sheet metal used in various industries.
     3. AWS D17.1 Aerospace Welding Certification
          Covers precision welding of aluminum and stainless steel.
     4. ASME Section IX Pipe Welding Certification
          Certification for high-pressure pipe welding, required for industrial and manufacturing work.
     5. OSHA 10 & OSHA 30 Safety Certification
          Ensures compliance with workplace safety regulations.
          Required for working on some commercial job sites.
     6. Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) Pathway
          For experienced welders looking to move into inspection roles.

How We Support Certification
Reimbursement for Exam & Testing Fees – Mannon Metal Works covers a portion or full cost of certification exams for employees who pass.
On-the-Job Training & Test Prep – Welders can gain hands-on experience to prepare for certification tests.

Eligibility for Certification Assistance
     • Must be employed with Mannon Metal Works for at least 6 months.
     • Must demonstrate proficiency in welding techniques related to the certification.
     • Must commit to remaining with the company for at least one year after receiving certification.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with layout and preparation of parts for fabrication
  • Learn blueprint reading and interpretation
  • Measure, cut, and prepare components under supervision
  • Use hand tools, grinders, and clamps to assist fitters
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the shop
  • Handle and transport metal materials safely
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE
  • Develop accuracy and precision in measuring and layout tasks
  • Observe and apply fitter techniques in real-world scenarios
Qualifications & Skills
  • Prior experience in construction or mechanical work is a plus
  • Strong willingness to learn and take direction
  • Familiarity with basic tools like tape measures, levels, squares
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and handle physical shop tasks
  • Reliable transportation to and from the shop
  • Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic
  • Comfortable standing, bending, lifting, and moving throughout the day
Work Environment
  • Indoor metal fabrication shop with exposure to sparks, tools, and machinery
  • Loud noise levels; PPE including hearing and eye protection is required
  • Physical work requiring strength, endurance, and attention to safety
